Project management is the most crucial function within a construction organization. The long-term success of a company is entirely dependent on the effectiveness of its project management staff. FMI has developed a process to evaluate the effectiveness of your project management personnel and practices. Following the project management assessment, the greatest opportunities for improvement are prioritized and specific action plans to improve deficiencies are developed and executed.
The profitable project manager today must apply skills, tools and techniques
that provide a competitive advantage margin erosion must be reduced,
schedule delays averted, undue risks minimized and unpleasant surprises eliminated.
FMI has developed a structured process to evaluate and improve project management
performance.
The four-step Project Management Improvement Process is designed to help general and specialty contractors who want to raise the bar on project performance through more proactive project management practices. Project managers working in todays complex environment must possess an extraordinarily broad set of skills including technical competency, planning, communication, business acumen, and leadership. FMIs Project Management Improvement Process will identify, prioritize, and establish action plans to improve your organizations project management effectiveness.
The process begins with an assessment of your organizations project management personnel and practices. FMI utilizes our proprietary Project Management Value Driver Scorecard to provide a consistent, disciplined method to measure the risk profile of your project management. Using the scorecard, a team of FMI professionals evaluates and scores your firm on over 110 specific factors. The scorecard is utilized in conjunction with additional analysis to identify key issues and prioritize the greatest opportunities for project management improvement.
The second step in the process consists of conducting a Project Builder Workshop. The workshop is designed to highlight the significance of proactive project management practices and to garner a greater understanding of differing perspectives and interests on a typical project.
Using the knowledge gained from the project management needs assessment and the project builder workshop, FMI then conducts an Implementation Planning Session to define the work plan, a schedule, and key metrics to validate progress and results.
Successful implementation requires long-term commitment and ongoing assistance from FMI. During the Implementation Phase, FMI provides the following, as required, to support the initiative.
In addition to the Project Management Improvement Process, FMI can deliver in-house educational sessions for operations managers, project managers, superintendents, and foremen. A sample of programs and topics includes:
