Project Manager Academy II: The Master's Program
October 8-11, 2012 | Raleigh, NC |
![]() |
Summary
A Year’s Worth of Decisions in a Four-Day Session
We have designed FMI’s PMA II: The Master’s Program as the senior-level, graduate program for Project Manager Academy graduates. This one-of-a-kind program, unique to FMI, will develop your skills through four days of using our intense, experience-based Construction ProfitAbility™ simulation, coaching from FMI’s industry experts and interactive workshops. Working in small teams under the guidance of an FMI team coach, each participant is challenged to take his/her lessons learned straight to the bottom line.
This senior-level, immersion experience is built around four core themes:- Developing and maintaining profitable, long-term business success
- Evaluating and mitigating enterprise risks
- Understanding and mastering financial control of your "business"
- Bidding and managing projects to maximize profits
Check back for the 2012-2013 PMA II: The Master's Program brochure.
If you have any questions about the program or the topics we will cover, please contact the program director, Andy Patron, at 919.785.9239.
FMI Construction ProfitAbility™
This intensive, interactive simulation allows teams to compete against one another to produce the highest return on investment possible. The program is specifically designed to give each participant the experience of running a simulated construction business. They pay the consequences and reap the rewards of every decision they make through experimentation and implementation of a strategic plan.
It has taken owners and senior executives a lifetime to learn the lessons needed to keep their companies from paying the high price of a bad decision.
Transferring this experience and knowledge through on-the-job-training, as it relates to teaching people about this industry’s financial hazards, has historically been extremely risky and expensive. FMI Construction ProfitAbility™ simulates a real company allowing participants to experiment (and potentially fail) with managing projects, people and money in order to give them the experience they need to become an industry leader and business manager.
Who Should Attend
FMI's Project Manager Academy is strongly encouraged prior to attending PMA II: The Master's Program. However, anyone committed to learning the financial management and leadership skills necessary to enhance your senior level business acumen should attend.
Past participants of FMI's Construction ProfitAbility have included:
- Senior PMs, superintendents and other operations-minded project staff
- High potentials/emerging leaders
- Division and business unit managers
We encourage companies to send as many of their supervisory team members as possible. The benefit of having several team members experience PMA II: The Master's Program together is that the principles taught will multiply throughout your organization. Several companies send their team members in groups to foster greater cohesion and accountability.

Before Attending
We are excited to know you will be joining us for our PMA II: The Master's Program. Although the academy will be intense, we are confident you will enjoy meeting and learning from other project managers, learning more about your project management capabilities; as well as discovering how to become a project leader. Following contains logistical information and pre-work requirements to get you started.
Work Begins Before Attending
There are two prerequisites you need to complete prior to attending. They are the ProScan® Assessment and a 360-Degree Feedback report (Vision View). You will receive two separate emails with links for the two surveys/assessments.
ProScan® Assessment
The ProScan® Assessment is administered over the internet. Your logon ID and Password will be provided to you via email. The assessment should take about 10 minutes to complete.
ProScan® reports measure:
- How a person functions most naturally
- The role a person feels they need to play
- How a person predictably comes across to others
- Energy resources
- Satisfaction index
- Stress levels
- Energy drain
- Decision-making
360 Degree Feedback
The 360° feedback compares how you see yourself and how others perceive you based on collected feedback. Your managers, peers, customers, direct reports and others are invited to provide anonymous ratings and comments on a variety of skill, knowledge, ability and behavioral areas. These ratings and comments are combined to provide you with a comprehensive report to assist in personal and professional development. You will receive a link to access the VisionView website with instructions on how to complete the survey. Also send the link to the individuals you have selected to complete the survey. Engage at least 10 others to complete the 360° feedback, including your immediate supervisor, three associates or peers, one direct report, one customer and one subcontractor or vendor.
Results are confidential to you and your FMI facilitator. Although the assessment only takes about an hour to complete, FMI recommends beginning the process two weeks prior to attending the program to allow enough time for the surveys to be completed.
All pre-work is due one week prior to your PMA II session start date.
